SOAS University of London

SOAS University of London, or the School of Oriental and African Studies, is a university situated in London, England. The TEF-Silver-awarded institution is currently the world-leader for the study of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, housing the Brunei Gallery – a celebration of historical and cultural exhibitions from the aforementioned regions. SOAS scholars focus on the contemporary issues facing our world today, and how best to address these, with full-scale collaborative methods and established techniques.

Its course offerings are equally diverse and span across three dedicated faculties: The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Languages and Cultures, and the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences. It is also home to the School of Law – one of the leading UK law schools. Staggeringly, the university offers around 350 undergraduate and 150+ master’s and PhD programmes in almost every one of its departments. Furthermore, and perhaps most crucially, the university holds an 11:1 staff-to-student ratio, which has helped cement its place as one of the best small-group teaching sites in the UK.

Additionally, a range of services and facilities exist to support student learning. These include but are not limited to The SOAS Library, the UK’s National Research Library, for Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. This and the Senate House building expansion provide students with a wealth of study opportunities and tools, with each individual being able to access over 1.3 million volumes and digital resources. As SOAS is associated with the University of London, students are also welcome to access any one of the University of London’s range of libraries, such as the aforementionedmain library in Senate House. The dedicated SOAS Careers Service nicely supplement these learning opportunities, giving students the support and know-how to truly succeed in the world of work, whilst Health, Counselling, and Disability services provide the expertise to assist students when they need it most. Last but not least, students have access to over 150 clubs and societies via the SOAS Students’ Union, allowing them to tailor their experiences to match their individuality.

Our Tests

Numerical Reasoning

Numerical reasoning tests are designed to identify an individual’s level of ability to reason with information provided in tables, charts and figures, in order to obtain a correct answer. A test taker is advised to look at each chart or table provided for each question, and use the information in these to work out the correct answer.

Verbal Reasoning

Verbal Reasoning Tests are designed to identify an individual’s level of ability to understand and respond to questions about information provided in a passage of text. A test taker is advised to read a given passage of text and then consider the questions which are presented as statements corresponding to the passage.

Logical Reasoning

These tests are designed to assess your logical reasoning ability using the information provided in sequences of diagrams containing various shapes. The test taker is required to look at the diagrams and identify underlying rules and patterns in the sequence, in order to identify the correct diagram that should come next in the sequence from the options that are provided.

Situational Judgement Tests

Situational Judgement Tests (SJTs), also known as Situational Judgement Questionnaires, are a type of psychometric test which assesses an individual’s competence. The test presents a candidate with a relevant work-related scenario and they are required to choose the best course of action from a number of options that are provided.
