Tips to Answer: The reason employers ask this question is to know if you can communicate effectively with a co-worker or customer. In this situation, think of a story where you came up with a positive outcome and solved the disagreement and had learned something new which is worth sharing with the employer. However, do not share a story which had negative implications for the company, such as a high cost in money and time.
Good Answer:
Tips to Answer: Employers ask this question to know how well you work under pressure and if you understand the urgency of tight deadlines. Therefore, it’s important that you tell the employer about your methods of handling deadlines, i.e. your time management methods. Choose a specific deadline that you had to meet from your experiences in a previous job or during your education. Discuss how your time management methods have positively impacted your project.
To manage my time well and deliver work within the deadline, I make to-do lists for each day. For example, if I have a particular deadline in 3 days, I pick up small tasks to complete each day, and try to complete these tasks within the assigned time frame. In doing this, I find that it reduces pressure from uncertainty by breaking these tasks down into more manageable tasks. I am often able to complete my projects within the deadline as a result of this technique.
Tips to Answer: Lloyds is a customer-oriented bank and thus your employers will want to know how you work with customers. Therefore, your answer should tell your employers that you empathise with your customers, are capable of understanding their problems and determined to find solutions in order to help them. Lloyds is likely to seek a candidate who is calm and knows how to communicate, so make sure you discuss a situation where you handled a difficult customer by keeping calm and understanding the customer’s point of view.
When dealing with a difficult customer, I try to understand what the customer has to say for themselves. When trying to understand the customers’ inconvenience it’s important to listen with patience and without getting offended. And for that, keep in mind that the customer isn’t angry at any individual but at the service of the organisation as a whole. This makes it easier to get into the customer’s shoes without taking what they say to your heart.

When was the time you went above and beyond for a customer?
Tips to Answer: The interviewers ask this question to know if you are determined to help your customers. They want to know when the time comes, will you do everything in your capacity or beyond to help your customer. Think of a story where you empathised with the customer and the reason why you empathised strongly with that particular customer which made you pull so many strings to help them.
At Lloyds we value empathy, why do you think that is?
Tips to Answer: Lloyds value empathy and they would definitely want someone to have this quality. And therefore it should be clear to your employers that you value empathy as much as they do. Tell them how you define empathy as an individual and what position it holds in your life.
Lloyds is concerned deeply about their customers and if they are getting the best service. For a great organisation such as Lloyds, it is important that its customers are satisfied with their service. And an organisation can only satisfy its customers fully when they can understand their problems completely and empathise with them.
Therefore, Lloyds’ main purpose is to look for empathy in the employees they hire. Because good employees make up a good organisation. I personally feel to understand one another, to help one another and to uplift one another we need to empathise with one another. Biggest of fights and the hardest of conflicts can be solved if one knows how to empathise and thus I’ve worked on myself to instil empathy in my personality and understand my customers’ problems by putting myself in their shoes.
What can you bring to the role?
Tips to Answer: The employers ask this question to know if your skills align with the requirements of the job, if you are enthusiastic about the job role and if you understand the requirements of the job. To answer this question, it’s important that you recall Lloyds’ values and read the job description carefully. Carry out a self assessment; ask questions to yourself like, “What motivates me?”, “What kind of company culture am I looking for?”, “What are my career goals?”, etc.
I have 7 years experience in financing and I have worked in different sectors of financing, therefore, I have mastered my skills in this sector. I still have a lot to learn and am ready for more challenges and thus I have applied for this job. I look for cost and time cutting solutions within my department to increase efficiency. In my last job, I created a new filing system which reduced the amount of time spent completing monthly financial reports by 45%.
If I am offered a role at Lloyds, I will bring in creativity, passion and improvement in this job for the organisation to flourish.
For example: for a data science role, ensure you brush up on your coding skills and ability to analyse large quantities of data. Consider the recent changes Lloyds have made to their apps and products, and how these may affect purchasing decisions and customer outcomes.
