Here’s what the Airbus Craft and Technician Apprenticeships involve.
Airbus designs and builds commercial aircraft, helicopters, and defence and space systems, with UK sites including Broughton, Filton, Belfast and Stevenage.
The Airbus Craft and Technician Apprenticeships are Level 2 and Level 3 programmes that typically last 36 months, combining college study with hands-on work on site. Roles include:
Level 3 Craft, Broughton:
Aerostructures, Aerosystems, Machining, Surface Finishing, Tool Room and maintenance roles, supporting wing manufacture for Airbus aircraft.
Level 3 Craft, Filton (Bristol):
Structures Test and Mechanical and Electrical roles, with Facilities Management Technical roles at both Filton and Broughton.
Level 3 Craft, Belfast:
Helping manufacture wings and mid-fuselage sections for the A220 aircraft.
Level 2 Technician, Stevenage:
Manufacturing, Panels, Propulsion and Satellite Assembly roles, learning how satellites are built.
Level 3 roles typically need five GCSEs at grade 4/C, including maths, English language and a science. Stevenage’s Level 2 roles have no strict entry requirements, though grade 3 in maths and English is desirable.

If you pass the online tests, you’ll be invited to an Airbus skills day.
Airbus assesses Craft and Technician Level 2 and 3 apprenticeship roles in person at a skills day lasting no more than one day. Airbus will send you specific instructions and confirm conditional offers after results day.
For 2027 starts, skills days run from 26 January to 4 February and 15 to 19 February at Broughton, 8 to 10 February at Filton, 15 to 18 March at Belfast and 16 to 18 March at Stevenage.
Good to Know: Airbus states that every formal assessment stage must be completed entirely by you, without real-time help from AI. Before your skills day, think of hands-on projects you’ve enjoyed, so you can explain why a practical apprenticeship suits you.
Starting pay varies by site and role. For 2027 starts, Airbus lists £16,632 a year for Belfast Aerostructures, £18,000 at Stevenage and £19,185 for the Broughton Tool Room role.
Airbus accepts applications from October until February. Its estimated closing dates for 2027 starts are 30 November 2026 at Filton, 15 December at Broughton, 20 December at Belfast and 30 January 2027 at Stevenage. Some roles close earlier.
It depends on how you like to learn. If you prefer learning by doing, an Airbus apprenticeship lets you earn a salary from day one and gain recognised qualifications, such as NVQs, while working with experienced fitters and engineers.
Applications open in October, and skills days run from late January to mid-March 2027, so allow several months. Offers based on predicted grades are confirmed after results day.
No. Airbus says its UK apprenticeships don’t meet UK Visas and Immigration sponsorship requirements, so you’ll need the right to work in the UK for the full programme.
