In the article below, we will provide you with a step-by-step overview of the best tips and tools to successfully pass the Credit Suisse assessment process in 2018.

Let’s start.

Credit Suisse Group is a Swiss multinational financial services holding company, headquartered in Zürich. The company is organised as a stock corporation with four divisions: Investment Banking, Private Banking, Asset Management, and a Shared Services Group that provides marketing and support to the other three divisions

Credit Suisse is a popular destination for graduate and professional positions, attracting thousands of applicants each year. People applying to Credit Suisse all have excellent grades and skills, so you need to differentiate yourself from the crowd!

Our experts have worked in recruitment with large multinationals and largest psychometric tests providers (CEB SHL and IBM Kenexa), and we now want to share the best tips and practices for getting your dream job first time!

Credit Suisse’s job application and assessment process is divided into 5 stages:

  1. Credit Suisse Online application form
  2. Credit Suisse Online aptitude tests
  3. Credit Suisse First-round interview
  4. Credit Suisse Assessment centre
  5. Credit Suisse Final interview

STEP 1

Credit Suisse
Online application form

Once you have decided on the position you want to apply for, you will need to fill in the online application form. You will be required to provide details of your education history and academic results, relevant work experience and possibly answer some short competency questions.

Credit Suisse online application Tip: Always aim to apply as early as possible – often candidates will be reviewed on a rolling basis and this  could significantly increase your chances. Remember to double-check the application form for any mistakes.

The CS online application form will provide a basis for any future references, so be ready to spend some extra time to make sure that the information you provide reflects not only you as a person, but also as a candidate that Credit Suisse are looking for.

STEP 2

Credit Suisse
Online aptitude tests

Depending on the business area and position you applied to, you may be asked to complete the following tests:

Our experts at Graduates First have designed the same tests for SHL and Kenexa in the past and so by practicing sample tests prepared by them, you can get a very similar experience.

A. Credit Suisse Numerical Reasoning Test

In this aptitude test, you will be given a few passages with tables, charts and other types of data presentation. Your task will be to quickly analyse the information and answer a series of questions.

Do not worry if maths is not your strong suit! All you will need is a quick recap of basic GCSE calculations, such as ratios, percentages and reading data off charts. Credit Suisse‘s numerical reasoning test is difficultnot because of the knowledge tested, but because of the time pressure and stress. You will have 20 minutes to solve this test!

CS numerical reasoning test Tip: You need to be able to control your stress and time pressure. The only way to achieve this is through numerical test practice in a safe environment, before your real aptitude assessment.

B. Credit Suisse Verbal reasoning test

Credit Suisse’s verbal reasoning test identifies a candidate’s ability to accurately extract relevant information from a previously unseen passage of text. The test requires candidates to critically analyse statements and decide which of them are true, false, or impossible to say – based on the information contained in the passage of text.

Credit Suisse’s verbal reasoning test tends to be more difficult for non-native English speakers, but what we would recommend is that everyone practices verbal reasoning test questions as much as possible, as this allows them to understand the specific ways in which texts are structured, and precisely what the questions are asking for.

STEP 3

Credit Suisse
First Round Interview

If you have successfully passed through the bank’s online aptitude tests stage, you will be invited to a Credit Suisses first round interview – which usually takes the form of a telephone interview.

Competency Based Interview (CBI)

Your interview will be competency based (CBI). Be prepared to talk about specific times when you demonstrated certain skills, such as: determination, teamwork, leadership skills, etc. Think about your previous projects and experiences – from your professional, academic, sports or private life.

CS first round interview Tip 1: Each of your answers should follow a STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) model, in which you need to refer to each of the four points mentioned above; explain what the particular situation was, what task you were faced with, what action you took and what the result was.

  • Before your interview, think of a few situations from your personal, professional or student life that can be presented using a full STAR model. We have a detailed description how to answer interview questions.
  • Be familiar with Credit Suisse’s corporate culture; this way you can accommodate your answers to show that you appreciate and align with the company’s mission.

You can also be asked some technical questions so you really need to know more about financial services and Credit Suisse’s position in the industry

CS first round interview Tip 2: It is crucial that you present a number of different examples from your experiences.  Do not get hooked on only one situation- instead prove that you are a well-rounded individual who always tried to get involved and learn more about something new.

STEP 4

Credit Suisse
Assessment centre

Congratulations if you have reached this stage. Not man do. You are one of the very few who have successfully passed the application process, online tests stage and first round of interviews. Well done!

Now you will be invited to a Credit Suisse assessment centre. The most important skill tested by Credit Suisse recruiters during the assessment centre will be your ability to work in a team and collaborate with others. You will need to demonstrate confidence, but it is important to remember that you cannot take too much control, or sit back and restrain from sharing your ideas.

Check out our assessment centre page for more do’s and don’ts to look out for. Remember – you are only given one chance to impress Credit Suisse recruiters.

During the course of the assessment centre, you will not only meet your potential managers, but also other candidates for the position. Use ANY opportunity given to get acquainted with them and establish a positive relationship: this will make it easier for you to be confident and do your best in the group exercise you will have to complete.

In this task you will be assessed on your ability to communicate and reach decisions as part of a team. You will be observed by Credit Suisse’s recruiters throughout the exercise, so make sure to demonstrate your strengths; share your ideas, but also be ready to appreciate others’ input and develop on their points, and try to persuade others to your ideas and ask interesting questions. Most importantly – remain calm and speak clearly.

STEP 5

Credit Suisse Final Interview

Credit Suisse Final interview is the last part of the Credit Suisse’s recruitment process. You are likely to be invited to more than one interview with a range of managers from your line of business. This makes the process more difficult for you as you need to make a good impression on a number of people. Remember to be polite and do not be shy to speak of your accomplishments! This is your last chance to stand out from the competition.

This will also be a chance for you to ask questions and experience what working at Credit Suisse might be like. Therefore, come equipped with some interesting thought-provoking questions, which you are likely to be able to ask at the end of your interview. You should always use this opportunity to engage in a conversation with a senior member of the team, to demonstrate your motivations and enthusiasm. Do not be afraid to ask your interviewer about their personal experiences with the company, and their career path.

If you want to be better prepared for your final interview that is a Go/ No Go for the job use GF Question Identifier Tool (QIT). You will be better prepared for this last stage and thus more confident.
